Climate Change-makers Research Project

The Future of Climate Change Education

Our research project funded by the Spencer Educational Foundation brought together 74 young Tasmanians aged 11-16 to talk about their experiences of learning about climate change, and to come up with a vision for what they want climate education to look like.

The Manifesto

Young people's ideas from four regional workshops in Hobart, Launceston, Burnie and St Helens were compiled by Curious Climate Schools researchers, and then checked and amended by the young participants in an online survey and workshop. The young people then presented this Manifesto to education decision-makers in an online forum in June 2025.

You can see the Manifesto below or download a pdf.

We want more education about climate change. We want our learning about climate change to be fun and interactive.
We want our education to include doing climate action. We want to speak for ourselves and to be listened to properly.
We want to learn how to influence others to care and act on climate change. We want to feel safe to talk about climate change and how it makes us feel.
We want to help others affected by climate change. We want to connect with businesses and organisations doing work on climate change.
